Inaccurate fuel gauge

Inaccurate fuel gauges in Nissan Frontiers can become a problem that leaves drivers stranded and out of gas even though the gauge may say there is still fuel in the tank. The main cause of these inaccurate fuel gauges is problems with the resistors in a circuit of the sender unit. The sender unit is responsible for updating the gauge on your dashboard by using a float mounted to a variable resistor. The float’s level in the tank is transmitted through the resistor and to the gauge to tell it how much gas is in the tank. Problems with the resistor can send the wrong information to the gauge causing you to think your tank is half full when in reality it is running on fumes.

Timing chain issues

The timing chain is responsible for maintaining the timing between all the pistons and valves on an internal combustion engine. Some Nissan Frontiers have been known to have the timing chain loosened over time. A loose timing chain can cause the engine to rattle, make noises, and misfire. Also, a loose timing chain can cause the vehicle to have problems accelerating. If not addressed right away, this issue can cause valves and rods in the engine to bend and eventually destroy the entire engine.

Coolant leaks

Many Nissan Frontiers with automatic transmissions have been known to have issues concerning coolant leaks. When the coolant leaks, it eventually mixes with the transmission fluid to create a toxic mixture that destroys everything it comes in contact with. This happens when a ruptured radiator cooler tank forces coolant into the transmission through the cooler lines. When the coolant and transmission mix together in the transmission, the fluid erodes all the valves and seals and eventually causes a complete transmission failure.

Sunroof

Some Nissan Frontier owners have reported that their sunroof rattles and makes excessive noise while they drive. Although annoying, this is not the biggest concern. The biggest concern is that these sunroofs that rattle and make noise have also been known to explode suddenly and without warning. The suspected cause of sunroofs suddenly exploding into a thousand tiny bits of glass is a flawed tempering process.
