OVERHEATING ENGINE

An overheated engine can cause the Ford GT to abruptly stall, which creates a dangerous situation on any roadway. The source of the overly heated engine must be discovered immediately before it ruins the engine completely. One of the most common culprits is a lack of coolant flow.

You’ll want to get your thermostat checked, as a faulty thermostat can result in coolant problems. If the water pump has malfunctioned, this may need to be replaced. Anything obstructing the radiator can result in the engine overheating and the Ford GT stalling out on the highway as well.

HYDRAULIC FLUID LEAK

GT owners are no strangers to hydraulic fluid leaks and this can be concerning for a myriad of reasons, especially when it causes the potential for a fire hazard. The most frequent models that hold these complaints are from the years 2017 and 2018. Ford has even gone as far as to issue a recall over the problem, which alleviates the concern a bit and reassures customers that the brand is aware of the problem.

The sole cause of the leak has been traced back to a specific valve in the assembly. If your GT has been having issues with a hydraulic leak, it’s best to seek out a dealership to see how they can resolve the issue. A new hydraulic filter may be installed or a valve replacement.

AIRBAG INFLATOR PROBLEMS

There was a recall issued over the Takata airbag inflators that affected nearly 60,000 Ford vehicles, some of which included the 2005-2006 Ford GT. The inflators were failing, which put the driver and passengers at increased risk in the case of an accident.

The airbags were exploding with such a great force that shrapnel was shooting into the cabin. The shrapnel from the inflator forced the recall on millions of vehicles, of which a fraction belonged to Ford.

UNSIGHTLY PAINT PEELING

Many GT owners want to keep their ride in pristine condition, as it’s a sports car. For some older models of the vehicle, peeling paint on the hood was a frequent source of frustration. Not only does peeling paint age a vehicle and make it look poorly cared for, but it can also result in rust and corrosion.

The best way to avoid the issue is to park the car in a garage or underneath covered parking whenever possible. Once the paint has begun to peel, you should find a shop that can repaint and seal the vehicle to prevent further damage.
