TRANSMISSION PROBLEM

The transmission problem is one of older models’ most common Acura problems. Models affected by the transmission issue were 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004. Drivers complained of a sudden slow transmission in their Acura MDX; in some worse cases, the transmission would not work. Unfortunately, the transmission problem is an expensive one to fix, which became a letdown to many Acura drivers. The fix could require rebuilding the entire transmission, costing more than $3000. These issues led Honda to recall many past models, including the 2001 Acura MDX.

UNUSUAL OIL CONSUMPTION

Your Acura MDX may also experience a high level of oil consumption. Excessive oil consumption is prominent in the Acura MDX 2010 and 2011 models. Although manufacturers claimed the engine had a regular oil consumption, many complaints have been filed about this issue. One user found out his engine used up to 3.5 quarts of oil within 5,000 miles.
The Acura engine required much attention and monitoring regarding its oil consumption. Oil problems could lead to a high cost of maintaining the engine and other issues.

RUMBLING AND OTHER UNUSUAL SOUND

Unusual sounds or rumbling noises have been reported in many models of Acura MDX. The noise may be traced to the failing transmission of your vehicle or a faulty gearbox which will affect the performance of your car. The rumbling sound will be challenging to diagnose. Some sounds you may hear include screeching noises, while others are simply rumbling noises. Either way, it is crucial to get your transmission and gearbox inspected. Drivers could experience rattling sounds from their car engine, which loose accessories and other engine issues may cause. Rumbling or screeching sounds are prominent in the 2004 Acura MDX model.

BAD ACCELERATION

Faulty transmissions are also responsible for bad accelerations, which plague several Acura MDX models. Your Acura MDX may experience a bad or hesitant acceleration, potentially worsening if not repaired immediately. Affected users complained they started experiencing a bad acceleration in their vehicle between 10,000 to 16,000 miles.
However, Honda/Acura released a bulletin on how to solve this problem in 2020. The issue remains prevailing and could be costly to fix. One of the ways recommended in the bulletin to improve the MDX bad acceleration is to update the TCM software.

SEAT PROBLEM

The seats of Acura MDX are considered very uncomfortable. While car seats may not be as comfortable as our home sofa, they are expected to have a level of comfort. However, drivers have complained of uncomfortable seats in the Acura MDX than most car brands. Owners complained of feeling significant discomfort after driving for 30 minutes. They could feel pain in their hips and lower backs. The design of the seat header seems too forward, not allowing drivers to place their heads comfortably without neck pain.
